THE OBS EXECUTIVE MBA
Presentation
In our current business environment, professionals must quickly react to change
and must make decisions that adapt to their company’s new needs, while still
creating value for the company’s stakeholders.
The OBS Executive MBA focuses on a strategic, international and innovative
approach to Business Management, inasmuch as any manager of a business
organisation or area must have a global vision of the company, and must
understand that any strategic decision they take must be in line with the company’s
strategy while at the same time bringing innovation.
The programme focuses on developing the skills necessary for leading a
business product, managing a company department or starting an own
business, such as:
- The ability to work in multinational, multi-point teams
- The ability to be client-oriented
- The ability to engage in a global, strategic or business approach
- The ability to plan and organise
- The ability to be results-oriented
- The ability to lead teams
Our Executive MBA is especially designed for those professionals who have
extensive professional experience and wish to extend their knowledge in areas
complementary to their current responsibilities. In short, it is designed for
professionals who seek promotion by adding greater value to their CV or who are
thinking of re-focusing their professional career.
Lastly, we wish to highlight our commitment to the Final Project, which gives
participants an opportunity to develop a Business Plan, incorporating all the
complexity associated to the launch of a business idea. This subject is not
exclusively focused on the creation of an own company, and allows participants to
have an open mind with regard to new ideas that could be implemented in their
current jobs.
STRUCTURE
1.-Methodology
In an environment where the right circumstances converge, the sum of the
individuals’ intelligences generates an excellent collective intelligence.
Our own and unique methodology consists in the shared learning experience,
which revolves around participants and in which teachers and teaching and
technological materials provide the essential resources for such an experience to be
generated.
The basis for success of the model consists in communication between all
participants.
In our virtual classrooms you will work with people from different sectors; you will
debate and solve cases with professionals with different experiences and different
points of view. Faced with the same case, the diversity of approaches provides you
with a wider perspective for your learning and your work.
An experience that can be put into practice immediately
Our methodology is based on the combination of practical learning and theory, and
requires students to actively participate in the different Virtual Campus
communication spaces with their opinions and points of view. To do so, in addition
to working on the documentation they are provided, participants must analyse and
resolve practical case studies based on real and simulated company scenarios.
Student participation and teamwork both constitute key elements in the
development of the programme. The training becomes more in-depth and rich, as it
is complemented and improved by the diversity of participants’ opinions and
experiences.
All the necessary support material used during the course –exercises, manuals,
case studies, reading articles– is provided via the Campus to enable students to
follow the different subjects.
OBS is focused on developing competencies, knowledge and skills, facilitating
flexible and immediate communication, promoting effective discussion, and
encouraging team work and interaction between participants. At OBS you are not
just a spectator – you must play an active role. Using the reference documents,
case studies and simulations, as well as the most advanced virtual collaboration
environments available via the Internet, participants engage in a rich learning
experience.
Knowledge is not a concentrated essence found in one person. Working together in
the case studies that each participant provides, the solution to the questions posed
does not only come from an expert, but rather it is built based on the experience,
vision, creativity and skills of the group members.
The best connection
When we talk about connection at OBS, we are not only talking about technology,
but also about professionals, experts, teachers, business people, entrepreneurs;
people who are inquiring, participative, open to asking and answering, considering
and suggesting, interested in everything related to the human, business and social
environment in which they carry out their work. People with experience and
with large doses of motivation and skills to provide their best vision
regarding issues and topics approached in each session.
It is precisely this connection throughout the entire course that helps forge social
and professional relations of great value.
The value of connection, of qualified networking based on the trust that comes
with time and shared efforts, is an essential asset that remains in time, even when
the course has finished.
OBS implements an intercommunicative methodology in which student participation
is of the essence.
Students also have the chance to participate in different activities, seminars and
conferences organised by EAE and UB, which complement classroom learning and
contribute to enriching their experience at OBS.
The Executive MBA adapts to participants’ different training needs on the basis of
their interests and professional situation, allowing them to recognise the aims of
each subject as they consolidate the knowledge they are acquiring. This way,
participants follow a process in which they acquire competencies, knowledge and
skills, which in a gradual, progressive and coordinated manner, allow them to make
progress within Business Management and Administration. In order for these to
become personal experiences, it is necessary to create an adequate combination of
theory and practical work.
Assessment Model
The assessment model is based around:
- Contributing to a constant monitoring of the programme.
- Ensuring learning and use of the concepts and procedures presented.
- Assessing the degree of achievement of the aims of the programme, which should
translate into professional skills and abilities.
The assessment is carried out continuously throughout the programme, there
being for each of the subject a series of activities that students must carry out
and which will be assessed by the teacher, who will inform students of the grade
obtained in each of them (1-low- to 10-high-), as well as of any aspects in need of
improvement.
The additional efforts made by students by participating in voluntary activities and
the continuous positive progress in each subject are also aspects considered by the
teachers when giving an overall mark on the achievements made in the subject.
The overall assessment of the programme is calculated as the average of the
grades obtained in the different subjects and the mark obtained for the Business
Plan, it being essential for the average of the grades obtained in the different
subjects to be positive.
Study Plan
The structure and duration of the Executive MBA allows us to ensure we achieve
our objectives. The complex task of managing a company requires extensive
training in a company’s functional departments, as well as the acquisition of
managerial skills and a strategic view of the company.
This is why each of the areas distributes the content with the following structure:
Strategic Area 27% of all content
Financial Area 20% of all content
Marketing and Commercial Area 20% of all content
Human Resources Area 17% of all content
Systems and Operations Area 16% of all content
The Programme is divided in four phases which focus on different the knowledge
and skills required in a Company’s Departments. The stages coincide in the
business strategic formulation process: designing the strategy, implementing it,
growth strategies, and strategic monitoring and control.
With this programme, participants will go through the different Departments of a
Company, understanding the responsibilities of each department and the key
necessary concepts for managing them, while still maintaining a global vision of the
business.
By doing the Executive MBA, in just a year students will acquire managerial skills
and obtain the latest, most practical and innovative knowledge necessary for
leading a department or a company.
Once participants have learned about all the main departments in a company, the
circle will close with the Final Project, which should be carried out during the last
two months. This Final Project – the Business Plan – will enable participants to
connect and apply all the knowledge they have acquired to a specific situation
(company, department, division, international activity or development of a business
project).
Although initially participants will work as a team on the methodology and key
concepts of the Final Project, in the last phase teachers will individually advise
participants on how to carry it out. Each teacher, an expert in their field of
knowledge, and an active professional in a company, will correct and provide advice
on the content of each phase of the Business Plan.
