The Interior Designer works on design projects in different environments: first and foremost is the domestic household area, private and collective living spaces, public spaces (airports, ports, stations), public service areas (banks, post offices, hospitals, schools, museums and exhibition spaces); places for consumers (shops, bars, hotels) and lastly open spaces (squares, courtyards, and playgrounds).

Professional Profiles: The career potential of an Interior Designer includes: the design of furniture systems; interior home decorating; interior public spaces dedicated to social, cultural, education, care and hospitality centers; urban furnishings, preparing fairs and temporary events; exhibit design. The Interior Designer can also propose to work as a general designer, CAD designer of interiors, or as a technician in the physical and virtual modeling of spaces.


Program .

IED São Paulo's Undergraduate Programme of Interior Design provides students with an opportunity to take part in an academic environment with permanent experience of the work routine and contact with renowned Design professionals. The School promotes the exchange of experiences and the development of creative, innovative, and coherent projects that approach issues such as sustainability, among others.

Current themes, such as the social development and the use of renewable materials, are part of the curriculum in the IED São Paulo’s Interior Design Course. Students are encouraged to research and reflect on the search for solutions to interior design projects. Matters such as renovation, revitalization, and reuse of existing spaces, for instance, are part of the line of study proposed by this Institution. With practical projects that include partnerships with renowned brands, the course stimulates the creation of a portfolio and the student’s integration with the job market.

The Professional .

The Interior Designer elaborates projects for several spaces, such as residences, shops, exhibits, restaurants, offices, and hotels. This professional must be always aware of the particularities of each environment, as they vary according to each cultural, social, and economic reality. Similarly to the Product Designer, the Interior Designer is a multidisciplinary professional that must comprehend several fields of knowledge. This comprehensive aspect qualifies this professional to manage projects integrated with the fields of Engineering, Architecture, Ergonomics, Biology, Communication, and Marketing.

This professional must master technical, humanistic, and artistic techniques and be capable of creating environments with great visual and emotional impact. When it comes to sustainability, this professional must be capable of analyzing and evaluating the best practices in the execution of a project. Mastering corporate management techniques is also part of the skills required for this professional.

Fields of Study

Culture: Aesthetics and History of Art, History of Design and Architecture, Man-Object Relationship, Semiotic Studies.
Techniques and Technology: Visual Language, Drawing, Computer Graphics, Digital Imaging, Constructive Materials and Techniques, Environmental Comfort, Management of Works, Corporate Management, Production Management, and Marketing.
Projects: Integrated Design Laboratory and Interior Design Projects.
