    Summer and Winter courses - Venice

    The last Art Biennale, titled The Encyclopedic Palace and curated by Massimiliano Gioni, have taken place from the 1st of June to the 24th of November 2013, with an extraordinary success, attracting over 475,000 visitors and confirming itself as the most visited art exhibition in Italy, one of the most important and known contemporary art exhibition in the world.

    At the beginning of May 2015 the new 57th Art Biennale opens its door to public, with a very ambitious title of All the World’s Futures, based on the idea of Okwui Enwezor, Nigerian curator and arts critic, writer, poet, and for the ArtReview one of the powerful people of the art world in 2014.

    During the two weeks of the course proposed by IED Venezia, the student will visit all the national pavilions of Biennale, and all the collateral exhibitions in Venice with the support of lecturers experts in contemporary art, having the possibility to meet pavilion operators and professionals working in the event organization, who will explain the “behind the curtains” of the event. A unique opportunity to experience the contemporary art system will be also offered thanks to the fieldtrips and meeting will be organized with representatives of the main Art institutions in the city, as Pinault Foundation, Prada Foundation, Peggy Guggenheim Collection and MUVE (the network of Civic Museum in Venice).

    Description.

    The Venice Biennale was born thanks to a resolution taken by the local City Council on the 19th of April 1893, which proposed to found a “biennial national artistic exhibition” that have to take place in the following year, to celebrate the silver anniversary of the Italian king Umberto and Margherita of Savoy. The event took place for the first time two years later, on 30th of April 1895, and now, 120 years later, the Venice Biennale represent in the world one of most important contemporary art exhibition, a not-to-be-missed event.

    Granted that, the Summer course Contemporary Art in Venice: the Biennal Exhibition want to be a sort of exclusive guided tour to live the event and what is around it, a training path able to provide the attendants with knowledge and

    The course Contemporary Art in Venice: the Biennal Exhibition, totally held in English, has a duration of 75 hours, from Monday to Friday with a full-time attendance. It will include fieldtrips and guided visit to the Biennale venue, as Arsenale and Giardini, to the Collateral Pavillion, as well as in the main Art Foundation of the city.

    The attendance is and specific prerequisites or educational training are not requested, but a specific bibliography will be provided to the students so to introduce them to the Contemporary Art subject.

    Roberta Iachini - Professor.

    Roberta Iachini, was born in 1973, graduated in "Painting", later specializing in "New Technologies for the Arts" (Academy of Fine Arts, Venice). Professor of graphics design since 2000, from 1996 she began his exhibition in public institutions (Magazzini della Zisa Palermo, Museum of Modern Art of Maribor, Ateliers d'artistes de la Ville de Marseille) and private galleries (Foundation Ado Furlan, No. Gallery, Milan, Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa, Venice). She also join the Advanced Course in Visual Arts at the Fondazione Antonio Ratti, and had residences for artists at the Civitella Ranieri Center, Umbertide.
